Academics
Thomasville Christian School offers a rigorous, high-quality academic program. It is important to have a scope and sequence followed in the curriculum. We use materials from Abeka, Purposeful Design by ACSI, and Bob Jones (BJU publishers) to support the learing of each student. All of our materials are purchased from Christian publishers. Additional curriculum products are available to provide a variety of teaching methods to accommodate the various learning styles of each child.
Additional supplemental programs include Montessori tools and the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, which is an Orton-Gillingham influenced, multi-sensory approach to reading and spelling.
Reading, spelling, and writing are three cords of learning that are crucial to student success in any subject. We will have ability groups for reading and spelling to challenge students who are more advanced as well as encourage and help students who struggle in these areas. Most of the subjects are taught with a multisensory approach, reaching not only the visual learner, but also the auditory and tactile learner.
Students are evaluated each spring with a nationally normed standardized test. Our current tool is the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS).
